This post is all about how to make the best homemade biscuits with ease.
The Ingredients for Homemade Biscuits
To make these buttery biscuits we first need to gather our ingredients. To make good quality biscuits we need good quality ingredients.

Let’s break down what we are going to need.
Flour
What kind of flour you use will make all the difference in the texture of your biscuits. We want nice fluffy biscuits so we are going to use a combination of all-purpose flour and cake flour. I recommend the two below
Sugar
This biscuits recipe does not call for a lot of sugar because we want our biscuits to be versatile. They will not be sweet so we can use them for savory applications as well.
With that said we are going to be using maple sugar for our biscuits. You can use cane sugar as a substitute if necessary. Maple sugar is a more quality choice as it is less processed and comes from one singular source, maple trees.
I suggest this maple sugar.
Baking Powder
Because this recipe does not call for yeast and does not taking a lot of proofing time it uses a lot of baking powder. Most likely you already have baking powder in you kitchen and that will work just fine for this recipe.
This is what I have in my kitchen for baking powder.
Butter
Butter makes the baking world go ’round and is probably the most important ingredient for biscuit making. For this reason I suggest using nothing but top tier butter.
Below are my three favorite butters to use for baking.
Milk
Any brand of milk will work for these homemade biscuits. I do recommend using whole milk as it will have the most flavor.
Eggs
Whatever eggs you buy on the regular, use those.
Salt
Flaky sea salt is the best salt and you will want to use flaky sea salt on the butter you are going to put on the finished biscuits.
Now that you have all the best ingredients gathered you are ready to make biscuits!
The Process
The process of making biscuits is pretty straight forward.
To make the dough you will start by adding the two flours, salt, sugar, and baking powder to a large mixing bowl.
Stir all those dry ingredients together so they are well combined.
For the next step you are going to need your butter. For the best quality biscuits the butter needs to be cut into small cubes and ice cold. Pop your cubed butter in the freezer for 10 minutes before you work it into the dough.
Once your butter is cubed and chilled you are going to work it in the flour mixture with your fingers. You know you are finished with this step when you have a course and mealy dough.
Make a large well in the dough for the wet ingredients to be added to.

In a separate bowl add the milk and eggs and whisk to combine them. Add the wet mixture to the well you just made and incorporate the ingredients together by using a fork and moving it in a circular motion.

Once all the ingredients roughly come together turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface.
With a rolling pin roll out the dough to be about 2 inches in thickness.

Cover the dough with a damp towel and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
While the dough is resting preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
After the dough has rested for 30 minutes it is ready to be cut. With a chef’s knife or a pastry cutter cut the dough into 12 squares. Transfer the uncooked biscuits onto the baking sheet.
At this point we are going to make an egg wash to brush over the top of the biscuits to make them golden brown.
To make the egg wash simply take one egg and whisk it vigorously with a fork. With a pastry brush, brush the tops and sides of the uncooked biscuits thoroughly.

Now it is time to bake the biscuits! Bake the biscuits at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Once the biscuits are done baking let them cool for 5-10 minutes and then prepare yourself for buttery goodness!

How to Serve Biscuits
Because these homemade biscuits are so delicious all on their own, to let them fully shine simply add a small slab of butter to each side of a biscuit split in half and top it with a little bit of flaky sea salt.
Another way is to serve it as above and add a thin layer of your favorite jam.
Here are my favorite jams to serve on biscuits
These biscuits are also perfect for biscuits and gravy.
Another way of serving these versatile biscuits is to make egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. To do this just take an egg and cook it to your desired preference and add your favorite cheddar or Swiss cheese to the biscuit and then you have the perfect take away breakfast.
Once you give this homemade biscuits recipe a try you are going to be hooked on biscuits. Disclaimer* theknifecuts. is not responsible for the potential side effects of gaining weight from the increase of biscuit consumption.
